Another change that stood out was the 1945 appearance, with Pensacola having her foremast cut down and tripod mainmast totally removed, while Salt Lake City hardly changed after the addition of directors.

While the torpedo tubes were removed in the 1934/35 timeframe, the additional 5" mounts were not added until after 1940. In 1940, a board was convened under Admiral King. This "King Board" was charged with recommending necessary AA upgrades to US ships based on British experience early in WW-II. Splinter screens and medium AA mounts (starting with the quad 1.1" mounts) were recommended, and the early Treaty cruisers needed to be brought up to the same 8 5" gun standard as the later ones. (The King Board also started looking for improved medium AA weapons, ultimately leading to the procurement of 40MM and 20MM guns.) Pensacola had these early improvements (splinter screens and additional 5") at least by October of 1941, according to photographs.

I might be interested too. I recently got a Midship Pensacola, which is in an earlier fit with 4 x 5”/25 rather than 8. I believe I saw a picture of prewar Salt Lake City already upgraded to 8, but perhaps Pensacola wasn’t refit until early 1942. Does anybody know? They were quite an interesting class of ships that each ended up with a unique look.

IIRC Mike C. from Corsair Armada made a post awhile back announcing that he was working on creating these kits. Just wondering if anyone knows anything regarding whether they are still happening?
