Depending on the size of the chip or dent, and the part's overall shape, I've just used repeated applications of small amounts of modeling putty, then cut away excess before it hardens completely, then sand or otherwise abrade away (small files work well, but rounded and flat-sided) the remaining excess once it has dried/hardened.
