The 4,7" guns in the quarter deck are easiest to notice in that Raven & Roberts profile.
I also found from Friedman's British Battleships page 241 a plan and a profile of HMS Rodney. These are smaller that Raven & Roberts drawings, but again the quarter deck guns can be seen, no shields. Text says "Rodney is shown in May 1941, at the time she helped sink the Bismarck."
Photos of completed 1/200 Rodney models show some "boxes" near 4,7" guns, but how accurate Trumpeter model is? There is also Polish "Super Drawings in 3D Battleship HMS Rodney" by Carlo Cestra. I could not find anything looking ready use ammo lockers there. Previous Message
Thanks Jorma. I will look at that drawing again! Hard to pick out details on the superstructure in that area. The lifeboats hanging on davits obscure things in this area. The Arifix Nelson model appears to have lots of "structures" that are NOT on a May 41 Rodney. Also using RA Burt's Brit BB's and Ensign/Man-o-
War publication. Previous Message
Hello Simon,
Raven & Roberts British Battleship WW2 has a profile drawing of HMS Rodney 1942 and it shows no shields for 4.7" guns. Shelter-deck plan states on both sides of the funnel "gunner's ready-use store", but that probably does not mean ammo locker? Previous Message
first, were any splinter shields on these guns installed before she Bismarck action?
Also, did she use "ready use ammo lockers" on deck near the guns?
