I can't speak to the Asiatic fleet, but I have posted a lot of 1941 camouflage documentation here, including a couple of the formulas.

The short answer is that there was the "pure" 5-D and also a couple of interim versions both to try and use up stocks of old paint and to provide some paint while the Navy ramped up production of the new formulas. I haven't found anything that discusses when they *might* have switched from issuing the converted 5-D to the more pure 5-D.
