Operating procedures are close to the same (or were) on the 5th floor (photos). Holly retired and there are pretty much all new individuals on the 5th floor. But were trained by Holly.
Cartographics (on 3rd floor) has almost all new people running it. Last time I used them, it went pretty smooth. You had to wait in the room when you requested oversize drawings to be copied. No running off to another floor while your copying is done. They finally have new scanner(s). There are nice microfilm readers with digital copying!!! Need to check with the people there as to current rules.
Who knows what the procedures are on the 2nd floor (textual) now. Their rules keep changing .... sometimes from day to day.
A summary of the official current rules can be read here ... https://www.archives.gov/college-park/researcher-info ...
Oh, there have been changes to security entering the facility and parking. Not really sure how those are impacting entering. NARA is being required to control access like other Federal Buildings in the DC area, which NARA wasn't doing. Mostly the way vehicles enter and physical bollards restrict how close vehicles can get to the building. If you were use to being with a group and stopping at the entrance to off load, sounds like a no-no. But, I have not gone through the new rules to know how it works. Not sure how bus service and shuttles to NARA I is being handled now. Previous Message
Hello All,
I may need to return to NARA II at College Park for some research in photographs and textual records for the first time since the pandemic.
Can someone tell me if things in photographs and textual records are back to (pre-pandemic) normal for researchers or have there been a lot of changes? If so, what sorts of changes?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Art Nicholson
