It does have some odd features. For example,
The shape of the funnel looks too slab-sided.
The shape of the armored conning tower looks off, especially the front.
Some upper decks are depicted planked but should not be.
The Mk.49 director platforms are oddly shaped and detailed.
Some splinter shielding appears incorrectly shaped. The real splinter shielding protecting the 5"/25 mounts was not pointed at the center. The point or bulge was offset to the left when looking outboard. This is because the crew platform for the gun was not symmetrical. The gun's platform was larger on the left side to provide space for the fuse setting device. When the gun rotated to the right, the larger left platform extended outward more so the splinter shield accounted for this. This asymmetry also means that the real port side splinter shields are not mirrored to the real starboard side shields. On the port side, the bulge is aft. On the starboard side, the bulge is forward. This error with the kit would be tough to fix because the wood deck veneer has cutouts for symmetrical, mirrored shields.
The splinter shielding on the top of the superstructure doesn't match photos of the real shield.
Whether any of this is bothersome is up to the modeler. This kit is much, much better than what we've had. It's a big improvement.
