Fuji (AGB-5001) built in 1964-1965 was the first Japanese polar research vessel, which served with the JMSDF. She replaced Soya (serving with the Coast Guard). She is since 1985 a museum ship in Nagoya (Fuji Antarctic Museum).

Her helicopter is a Mitsubishi S-61A-1 Chidori, which is a licensed version of the Sikorsky S-61:
