It was painted on an aluminum plate and mounted to the bulkhead with aluminum studs. I was on USS Harry E. Yarnell (CG-17), another CRUDES-8 ship at the time.
I rode Bainbridge for an SM-2ER missile shoot in 1987 in the Puerto Rican OPAREA. Later I was embarked NATO staff on her last cruise in 1994 as part of Commander, Standing Naval Force Atlantic STANAVFORLANT (now Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1)).
Having been on a conventional Leahy Class, the nuclear version was manpower heavy. The Engineering Department alone had 30 officers, nearly the complement of officers in all departments of a conventional cruiser.
