I'm very sorry to hear that. I have his three volumes on 3d generation battleships that he did with Robert Dulin which I picked up back in the 1980s and, while I understand that there are some controversies around them, I greatly value them.
My condolences to his family and friends.

I was informed yesterday of the passing of Bill, having been ill for some time now. Respected author / co-author of several well received naval books and chairman of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) he will be missed. Vale Bill!
