So the torpedo bulges on the kit are massive and not even close to the real photos. I’d have to take of a ton of material to get them to look right. By then, including all the modifications that I am doing, 50% of the kit will be rebuilt by 3d printing and scratch building. Not to nitpick the kit but I had turned brass barrels made because the kit 12” 45 cal barrels were roughly the size of the barrels in my BB-63 USS Missouri kit.
Thats how radical the changes are going to be.

Going by IPMS Nationals 2025 contest categories... The standard categories are 402 for 1/700 Battleships and 403 for 1/350 Battleships.
For all Conversions and Scratch-Built there is category 425. The criteria are: "A conversion entry MUST have its silhouette SUBSTANTIVELY CHANGED by the modeler, using either scratch-building materials or parts from another model or manufactured conversion, whether or not it is intended for the model it is employed upon". So, unless your conversion is dramatic, say backdating a 1941 kit of USS Arizona to 1916, your Florida would go into a standard category.
Local contests may vary.

BTW My grandfather served on USS Florida from 1927 to decommissioning.
