North Carolina was originally fit with Mk.38 directors with 6-sided shield, with Mk.8 radar antennas. The Mk.8 radar antenna was an open frame antenna. It looks like a bedframe that has been folded over twice into a box. She had Mk.8 radar antennas for most of her wartime service, if not all of it.

At some point, about late 1945 or 1946, photos clearly indicate that the two Mk.8 radar antennas were replaced with Mk.13 radar antennas. The Mk.13 antennas in 1946 photos have a smooth, solid airfoil-shaped cover with no recesses.

We offer the correct post-war antenna as an option.

The ship as she appears today as a museum ship, has the Mk.13 airfoil-shaped covers. However, the covers today appear to be sheet metal reproductions and may not be original to the ship.
