My best guess is that they are being drawn based off the plans being digitized from the National Archives. The Wyoming kit pretty much follows the 1920's set available at archive.org, and there are Cuttlefish (sister to Cachalot) plans there also. There's also the stuff that Floating Drydock has, as well as the Wiswesser collection. Also, archive.org has a lot of non-US ship plans on it, and it's all free. Throw in Navsource, and all the national archive sites for each country, and there's tons of photos now that weren't available even 10 years ago.

A followup question regarding the use of War Thunder or World of Warships 3D imagery for creating 3D-printed model ship kits. If this is true, and I certainly agree with the evidence, from where do the gaming companies get THEIR images of 100+ year-old warships? Previous Message
