MS 1 consisted of 5-D Dark Gray overall with 5-L Light Gray from the top of the funnel to the upper part of the fighting tops and masts. 5-D was a very dark shade, almost black, with a very slight bluish tent. 5-D was not a good paint and tended to fade or chalk after exposure to salt air and seas water.
By December 1941, the official blue was 5-S Sea Blue which shortly be replaced by 5-N Navy Blue. Some cruisers wore Sea Blue o December 7. The SAN FRANCISCO was in the process of being painted into 5-N at the time of the attack.
If ARIZONA had survived the attack and made it the West Coast for her refit, she would likely emerged wearing overall 5-N.

My understanding is that Arizona was a very dark blue, almost black when she sank.. Measure 1. that's usually what I do my Arizona builds in unless the clent wants different Cheers Previous Message

Hello everyone,
I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Dean, recently retired from a 46 year career as a coatings/analytical/do-all chemist. Pertinent hobbies include a collection of 890 odd 1/1250 ship models and a huge stash of 1/700 ship models with the occasional aircraft and armor model mixed in.
I am not highly skilled but I do enjoy the hobby.
