Probably Putin told him his propaganda version of ideas about Ukraine - and now Trump blames Ukraine for the war, calls Zelenskiy a dictator - and much worse - made a lot of concessions to Putin (Ukraine will not be a member of NATO, has to give up parts of the country occupied by Putin, etc.) without getting anything in return. And probably Putin also told Trump to copy Putin and threaten his neighbours (Canada, Greenland, Mexico, Panama, etc.): Europe for Putin and North America for Trump. To manipulate Trump, all you have to do is call him great - and he'll do anything you want if you're an oligarch or dictator yourself.
