The Japanese made better cars, more durable. So the American car industry raised prices to match and what happened? Chrysler blew up , AMC went under. Ford took on a new nick name “F***ed on race day”and GM barely kept their nose above water. Can’t blame tariffs on poor product.
Upshot the Japanese moved here and now they make not so good cars right along side with the Americans. Previous Message

In the 70s and 80s, the US raised tariffs on Japanese cars at least twice. Each time, the domestic auto companies raised their prices to match. Previous Message

I have been reading about how the new administration's tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China have eliminated a "de minimus" exception on tariffs that has been in effect since 1930. I didn't know the exception existed until I saw the news about its elimination as to those three countries.
The exception allows one person to receive imports of goods valued at less than US$800 each day. I think the exception
