The differences in the as built Zumwalts from their earlier design were the result of the Nunn-McCurdy breach which happened when the ships were put up for rebid as technology demonstrators. Even though those involved knew that was going to happen, some cost reductions were still mandated for the ships to be allowed to be built. The early kits came out before this happened, and showed the ships as they had been intended. Flyhawk benefitted from deciding to do what actually got built instead.
No, the DDGX design has not been finalized, though the official drawings floating around (lots of fanciful unofficial drawings out there playing around with the weaponry) do seem to reflect "the basics" that have been settled upon. Still, certain details are indeed subject to change at this point for any number of reasons. If you don't like "speculative" subjects, and want to do real ones, do not buy this kit. I like the way they have chosen to portray the subject with this kit, and the fact that it is something that can be assembled, not just a solidly printed chunk of resin.
I think we desperately need this ship, but whether we will choose to afford it is another thing entirely. I hope we do produce it, and I hope we don't screw the project up. I have now learned how complicated ship design and construction is, and some of the many ways we can get it wrong. They are proceeding with great caution on this program, but that itself is a hazard. Time is money, and the more slowly this is dragged out by hesitations, the more it ends up costing, thus the less likely it is to be approved. There's a "window." The work needs to be both timely and accurate. I will watch with interest.
And if it ends up canceled, I will enjoy my imaginary subject. Previous Message
I had thought about buying that kit. The producer is Doggy Industries, his own eBay account is byl.yu8 .
But, as you had written, the ship will be completed if built sometimes in the 2030s. After the first Zumwalt kits being in many details very different from the real ship, I am hesitating to buy the kit.
Is there even a finalized design of the DDG(X)?
But I am curious what do you thing about this "what-if".
I have bought the new kit of the French frigate Cassard by Doggy Industries and I have a couple of others (FDI, Floréal, Almirante Grau, De Ruyter, HQ-5, Bonifaz, Coronel Bolognesi...)
