I think it was pretty standard practice for them to leave the shutters off the case-mate openings while in port. They needed as much airflow through there as possible. Some of the ships may have had their canvas covers rolled out over the openings but I don't believe I have ever seen evidence of that on 12/7. the guns themselves would have been stowed in their normal stowing positions.

Does anyone know. When in pearl on the 7th. Since it was a Sunday and still technically peacetime.
Would the 5 in guns have been trained out or completely inside the casemate with the windows closed?
Or was it just standard policy to keep the guns out except in heavy weather?
