I've put on many wood decks on my ships and now prefer them as it comes out so clean.

I also always paint my hull, scuff up the deck and then lay down the wood deck. I've never had a problem with fit. If the deck lifts in a place or two, a little CA glue under the deck in that spot does the trick.

IMHO it's really a fairly easy process.
