Two solutions to the problem. Pretend that the Navy was in such a rush to get the ships into service that they used what they had on hand to get the ship into action. OR replace them with some 3D printed guns. Either way they could be right as the ships were never actually built.

For what it’s worth about a subject that had never actually been built in reality, it seems that Trumpeter got it wrong again: the pics of kit sport 5/38 turrets instead of the 5/54 that were intended for the Montanas.
