I suspect that it has been "bulled up" for the King's visit so any available paint or distemper will have been used. The only light grey paint was the Sky Grey not used for two years, but it seems too light for that.
I am researching on the colour of the Walrus aircraft abroad HMS Manchester in around 1942 and I found this photograph (link below) that the it was in a single light tone instead of the usual FAA camouflage scheme. Whether the mono colour was the pre-war aluminum, or light grey? Thank you.
