Neither Iron Bottom Sound nor (now closed) Nautilus Models have their 1/72 scale Balao conversions available anymore. However, Model Monkey makes a very nice 3-D printed 1/144 scale version; possibly he could scale it up for you to 1/72. He does make some 1/72 scale pieces for Balao class subs as well.
The submarine employed for filming was USS Pampanito (museum ship in San Francisco). I'm not certain that the conning tower fairwater matches the Model Monkey version. There were several variants of Balao Fairwater, depending on how accurate you want to get the model.

Good Morning guys does anyone know if there is a nice Balao conversion for the 1:72 scale Gato kit?? A 3D printed one would be outstanding! I'm wanting to build the "Stingray" from one of my favorite Kelsey Grammer flicks, Down Periscope.. any help would be greatly Appreciated God Bless!
