When last I posted this, another person disputed the 1942 caption date based on the aircraft's markings. I am not up to speed enough on that subject, but 1942 usage of this crane is consistent with things I have read. It was a "pioneer" vehicle...readily available from dockside facilities, it was pressed into early service while the Navy developed the later purpose-built items.
And almost as good as the other article, though it doesn't talk about carrier use, just the dockside history at this port:

You've missed past discussions here on this.
The Karry Krane was a popular dockside-use crane in the years just before the war. It, along with jeeps and the Hebard Shop Mule tractors (also popular in dockside warehouses) were some of the first deck vehicles employed aboard carriers until the later purpose-built LeTourneau crane and Ford Mototug tractor could be put into mass production.
By later war, we find this:

It is a Hebard Shop Mule that is found in the "famous" photo from the Hornet wreck:

Says "International Harvester" on the machine itself, but if you look into it all, you find Hebard took International Harvester farm tractors and redesigned them for warehouse use. Apparently, warehouse towing requires different transmission requirements from farm work.
I do hope this link is not paywall protected. It is an excellent article on the Karry Krane:
