It's as much a sea story in the vein of Conrad as a war story. The rigid captain and his less rule-bound first mate, with the radio operator trying to encourage the best in each man.
It's a Norwegian film, so there are no cheers or fist-pumps, no triumphant musical fanfares. The emphasis is on what's done and not what's said.
