Prior to my retirement, my carrier experience was the 1/720 Italeri kits. After retiring, I finally made up my mind which one I wanted, and sprang for the Trumpeter 1/700 Lincoln. Looking at it in the box was intimidating. Parts which Italeri molded on took three pieces to produce, then place. Seemed complicated. Finally I plunged in, and shocked myself at how smoothly it all went.
So, when I opened the Magic Factory box, instead of dread, I was actually excited. Sponsons not molded on and need assembling? No problem. Hangar deck to build? "Been there, done that." The fit was great. In a couple of instances, I had to both study the instructions and play around with the part itself to determine fit, but for the greater part the instructions were clear. In the case of the UNREP gear on the hangar overhead, I did not at first know what I was supposed to be assembling, and while the extended version was illustrated "in place," the retracted parts were all just illustrated "aside" and noted as an option. With genuine luck, among the first photos I found in a search on hangar gear showed me both that they were UNREP tensioners, and how they looked both extended and stowed.
I enjoyed myself. Great kit!
Hi, is anyone building this new kit of the USS Gerald R Ford, 700 scale?
Wondering if it goes together OK or not.
Thank you!
John.
