many years ago - like 25 years ago, came across a 1890a period paint sample brochure (real paint samples, not printed) from a paint company for sale on a certain auction site - included amongst the samples was "navy spar" with what appeared to be the right shade. of course, it could have just been their idea of what the color looked like, but presumably they had at least seen it in person. foolishly, we didn't shell out the $10 or so they were asking at that moment and when we came back a couple days later it had already been sold to someone else....
