I have read The Fast Carriers, which is really good about the strategic matters on shaping and using an air navy. I would like to read something else about the ‘petty’ operational aspects of running an air group in WWII: time needed for spotting, arming, fueling, launching and recovering the planes - for a given number of planes in a wave, how many waves a single carrier could have launched in a day and so on… Regarding the IJN these aspect are very well covered in Shattered Sword, but nothing or very little is said about the US carriers. Two very different approaches indeed, since the US Navy performed the rearming and refueling of the planes on the deck, the IJN mostly in the hangar. I would also like to know something about the fleet formations and, for example, what the screen did while the carriers turned into the wind for launching and recovering.
Any suggestion about useful books and resources would be very appreciated.
