The best reference I have found is a four part series of books authored by Sawyer & Mitchell. After a couple of years effort I found all four parts of the series.
Looking at bookfinder.com part 2, 3 and 4 can be purchased. I forget which part covers P4 and C4 types. Will look later to let you know.

P2 transports, C4, transports, etc. Any of the ships that were used in the late war and post war period in to transport displaced persons immigrating to the US, etc.
There's limited data on Wikipedia and NavSource. The Military Sealift Command (as it is now called) does not have a lot of information on these ships either.
I work as a public historian / researcher at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration and want to gather as much data as I can so this can potentially become a limited curated exhibition.
