Rich, I bought via Ebay through seller known as
lixili_1 with whom I have purchased many items over the past 10 or so years. He has always made me whole although that may take some time. I have told him that I am patient and wish to wait until the cast resin hulls for their 3D printed SS-Models are improved to at lest come close to SS-Models all cast resin kits.
Am not sure but believe this (lixili_1) Ebay vendor is connected to SS-Models and maybe even a part owner.
Who was the Ebay seller that you purchased from?
My guess is you did not buy from lixili_1 but rather from one of the many other Ebay sellers. And it appears that many of these other sellers are just resellers. They wait for your money to reach their bank account and then purchase the kit from SS-Models and ship to you. That should explain why they will not send you a replacement hull as they would lose money in doing so.
I got in touch with SSMODELS directly with the information provided by Lars in the above post. The answer about getting a 3d printed hull was in the negative. It's a shame some of the 3d printers here in the States won't offer hulls for different ships, with the exception of Kraken, which prints the Mahan and Benham destroyer hulls. I'm sure there would be a makrt for replacemnt hulls.
Did you ever get the printed 3D hull?? Also I'm gonna figure that you asked ssmodels directly about getting replacement hull. I asked the dealer about a replacement and got a resounding no.
SS Models know they have a problem with their 3D printed hulls warping. That's why they started offering version 1.5 kits with cast resin hulls that come with their 3D printed kits. Unfortunately, I agree that those resin cast hulls are generally poor. Their USS Nevada cast resin hull I received was terrible. To their credit they offered a 3D printed hull as a replacement. What I found strange was that previous to having 3D printed products they produced everything in cast resin. The few kits I purchased had very nice hulls. So I asked them if they had changed their resin caster and did not receive a clear answer
Greetings all.
A while back I received SSMODELS HMS London and the USS Arizona. The 3D printing on these models is outstanding, HOWEVER, the hulls were resin cast and while not bad, were NOT great. Does anyone happen to know who's casting molds they use?? For the London I plan to use a Trumpeter or Aoshima County Class cruiser hull. For the Arizona I'm going to use Dragons out of production Arizona hull. Both while not perfect should do the trick.
