The reason for the list or catalogue is simply interest and curiosity. No harm in that.
HP Models does not longer produce anything, only the remaining kits are still sold on eBay (not sure, if by himself or a relative). The molds for the USN ships were sold to Tom's Modelworks, who released updated kits of several of those.
What would such a list help, if most of the kits are not longer available anyway?
HP Models used to send long lists of kits, covering almost everything in WW2 period and a lot of the WW1 and some Cold War. But not everything was already available, some very only announcements. That would make it difficult to make a correct list.
