I take a piece of foil (Reynolds Wrap) and trace the hull on the regular (NOT the non-stick) side of the foil. I then sculpt "waves"/wake patterns with my fingers. Then I smother white glue on the other side of the foil. I then put it on a piece of appropriate sized plasticard. Let it dry, possibly re-shape some of the wake/wave patterns.
I then over spray it with whatever color I would like, add white for waves, wash it with a little gray if desired, etc., etc.
Once dry, I glue the ship onto the sea scape. Works great and it won't crack like it can over time with clay or some other substance.
