Norman Friedman's book on British Destroyers was interesting put me on the path to purchasing several kits. A collection of destroyers seemed like a good idea years ago after reading the book. The navel museum in Bremerton, WA got me thinking about submarines. And again, a small sample collection to model. So yes, the history that we are exposed to can have an influence on what we model. I'm not sure though that researching a particular subject is a good idea. I find it tends to expose the shortcomings of the kits we buy.
