Corgi Toys issued a mazac die cast model of the QE which is by far the best model available in 1/1250. Why they didn't make it waterline I have no idea. I was one of several people who wrote to them and pointed out that is where the collectors market is for 1/1250 ships. They then spoiled the model - which was aimed at adult collectors - by 'welding' hopeless, plastic F35s to the deck. In spite of the drawbacks, waterling the model did produce a very nice model that sits well with other 1/1250 ships.
The biggestest irritation for me was that Corgi didn't issue it as a Tri-ang (parent company Hornby Hobbies still owns the copyright to the name I believe) in 1/1200 so it would be perfect for the 'Modern Edition' of Tri-ang Minic Ships.
Sorry, I remembered that I linked your model only after posting it. This model needed a lot of extra work.
I would still think that in many cases it is more realistic to look for cast or printed resin alternatives than wait for a plastic kit.
But your QE example demonstrates also that this could (but does not have to) cause more work.
For me, most plastic models are more laborious than cast or printed resin kits.
