The real mind bender is Royal Navy 676 Light Weatherwork Grey, the modern Royal Navy hull color (colour). I have a couple of models painted with this color. In my shop, fluorescent lights, the color does not look right. It is straight up light grey without a slight blue tint. Move the model upstairs to natural light, and it now has the true color we see on the ship.
The reason…. Fluorescent lights do not emit blue light for the paint to reflect. Color is completely dependent on the light source it is reflecting. By the way, not an optical illusion, it is really what you are seeing.
