When this thread first started I was thinking back to the days of the early internet and some of the earlier nautically themed websites. Don’t know about you guys but I have been building ship models since the 1960’s when I was in grade school. I felt I was the only one on earth that did this because I never encountered anyone else that engaged in the hobby. I recall some early modeling bulletin boards on AOL and I would scour them for any reference to ship models. I think I then discovered navismagazine by Paolo and another site developed by Felix which, I can’t remember the name of but I think it was hosted by Tripod? Both gone now. Anyway, I think it was in the mid to late 1990’s when I discovered both Steel Navy and Model Warships. For the first time I realized that there were others out there like me. Found both sites full of knowledgeable people and loved the galleries. So full of ship models constructed to standards I could never hope to attain. Anyway, long live both sites and their respective communities.

Hi All,
Having been around on this board since it's inception by Rob Mackie (I remember the day he called and said he was going to make this) as a response to navismagazine and my bestest buddy back then, Paolo Pizzi, I think it can be said that this site has lasted far longer than anyone thought it would. I do know from talking with Steve a few years ago, there was an issue with the software used to update the website, and it was becoming a bigger PITA than he thought it would. Will there be a demise of the site, I don't know. But for nearly 30 years, it's been the go to place for a lot of people, and should remain to be that. Congrats to Steve and Felix for all the work they put into this, and hopefully something good will come soon.
