Back in about 2012, USS Gravely DDG-107, came into Boston, and I got to go aboard. The main deck port and starboard sides of the forward superstructure are simply covered passageways through from midships to the foredeck (or vice-versa.) As our guide led us through the starboard passageway, there was a small aluminum punt stowed on its side, leaning against the outer bulkhead. There was also a large charcoal grill for the Steel Beach parties stored there as well. Such "miscellaneous" items don't particularly have a "regulation" stowage space. They get put "wherever."
(And I would be very amused if the charcoal grill showed up in Gravely's booklet of general plans...)
(Not everything on a Navy ship is strictly regulation. Got to be somewhat flexible with the thinking.)
WeeVee BOGP's does list all the boats including the 2 14' punts for each ship but not the location of those punts.
I wonder where the two 14’ Punts were stowed. I know that Oklahoma and Nevada stowed their Punts on top of the vegetable locker.
Hi Chris. There are boats listed on a 1939 General Plans PDF posted on the San Francisco Maritime National Park Association website if that helps.
