An Zumwalt could defend itself and other ships against such drones, because it can fire ESSM, SM-2, and SM-6. At least theoretically, it has an X-band active phased array radar (SPY-3) to guide also SM-2. I read conflicting statements, if the US Navy adapted its SM-2 for it. But three European navies can guide SM-2 with an X-band active phased array radar (APAR). SPY-3 is at least on paper far superior compared to an old S-band passive phased array radar like SPY-1. Zumwalt would have been the better air defence ship compared to a Ticonderoga or Arleigh Burke Flight I to IIA, if it would have also got its longer range SPY-4 radar.
