The year 1940 for US carrier planes was the last full year of the colorful markings with the yellow
wings.On Dec 30 1940 the painting of carrier planes were to be painted Non Specular NS(Flat paint) light gray and they remained light gray until August 1941 when the orders came out for the planes to be repainted in a 2 tone camouflage
with NS Blue Gray on top of the planes with their bottoms painted NS light gray. HTH.

What year did the Navy change from Yellow wing paint on planes to Grey camo for carrier aircraft?
My Father served on the USS Ranger from 1938-January 1942. I am building the Ranger for the year 1940 and need to know what to paint the planes that would be on board. Thanks, he passed away in 2010, this build is for my Family as a tribute to him.
