Hi Keith, I donít know specifically when Ranger switched to overall gray planes or how quickly the Atlantic Fleet made the switch. I believe the directive came out at the end of 1940 for the switch to happen. I can tell you that the majority of the Pacific Fleet ships started the switch in April 1941.
What year did the Navy change from Yellow wing paint on planes to Grey camo for carrier aircraft?
My Father served on the USS Ranger from 1938-January 1942. I am building the Ranger for the year 1940 and need to know what to paint the planes that would be on board. Thanks, he passed away in 2010, this build is for my Family as a tribute to him.
