I built the Revell model years ago. Still have the Dresden in a box somewhere.

This superb 1/50 model of the protected cruiser SMS Emden (1908) at the International Maritime Museum Hamburg, could serve as reference during building the 1/700 FlyHawk kit or the old 1/350 Revell kit:
