Yeah, as Simon wrote, I'm not sure either. I just remembered the bronze-grey decks the RN used early war and googled it. I will leave it to others who may be more versed in the subject to answer the question as I would like to know as well.

In addition to your recommendation look at the tracks the aircraft are leaving. A steel plate deck would be pretty damn slippery and skid marks, water and oil would be darker than the tan There are also lighter patches where there is no traffic upon the deck. The tire threads of the Spits seem to be white so I think the question is did the Brits use an anti-skid substance upon their steel tan decks that wore off pretty quickly like an anti-skid powder? If so then then maybe a light wash over the tan?

1936 - 1941 the flight decks were bronze grey (this may be the "tan" you are referring to).

Illustrious class carriers of world war two I know had steel decks and I know depending on the camouflage scheme the deck color would be probably different. What colors would be appropriate for the carrier I have seen tan I have seen dark gray and I have seen medium gray., but were they covered with anything else? Thank you.
