At Shapeways, the quality between the different designers varies dramatically.
Some models are only upscalled 1/2000 models and are not recommend to use in 1/700, some designers never use any plans/drawings and therefore there models only somehow resemble the real ship, some make very good models. In most cases, you have to replace some details and and many additional details.
Be also aware that only certain printing qualities are useful, others require a lot work to get smooth surfaces. I would recommend from the current printing qualities at Shapeways only Gray Fine Detail Plastic.
For a more specific answer, better first ask about the designer before buying anything.
I think that the Gaga kits (at Globaltoys at Ebay) are useful. There is apparently also the problem that large ships are printed in lower quality than smaller ships (I have bought only frigates and destroyers), but I have seen very good models built e.g. from their Enterprise and Forrestal kits.
