I saw that movie yesterday, too. Strangely, for the first time. Probably fictitious, like "Sand Pebbles", and actually diesel powered. In reality, a ship/boat with that high center of gravity would have easily capsized in the storm. And those two direct hits (5") should have totally demolished the boat! Sand Pebbles was a lot more believable and interesting.
