I think you are right. The video on a conversion in modelkitmaker indicated that there was a great deal of work to increase the width of the hull at the fwd end of the forecastle.
Anyway it will be fun trying

The bow modifications of Admiral Scheer were more extensive than e.g. the one of Lützow . Not only the stem was modified, but also the hull sides, the shape of the forward part of the deck etc. I would assume that these is the most difficult part of the conversion.
