USN #27 Neutral Haze Gray was blended from lampblack and white paint. It matches neither earlier USN 5-H haze gray nor postwar haze gray nor aviation gull grays.
The Snyder-Short color chip labeled #27 Neutral Haze Gray (1945) is not that color and is instead USN postwar haze gray, a lighter and blue-tinted color that indeed resembles haze at sea.
