Amazon has pulled down all my detailed reviews of naval books and has banned me from posting new reviews.
My crime: I did a negative review of Rings of Power.
A) I've noticed funky stuff in reviews of my own books. The star rating never seem to match the reviews.
B) It appears that Amazon did a sweep of reviewers a few weeks ago where they purged people who did negative reviews of Rings of Power. There have been YOUTUBE videos on the purge. They are also reported to be purging bad Rings of Power reviews on Amazon-owned IMDB. Obviously Bezos is a little sensitive after spending a billion dollars on Rings of Power and having the product suck so badly.
The Amazon-adjusted IMDB score is 6.9/10 while users on metacritic give it 2.6/10.
I was only able to make it through the first episode, which is further than any of my friends made it. I watched the first season of Wheel of Time, which had the same problems, and, from that experience, I knew Rings of Power would not get any better. From what I have read, it clearly did not.
C) There were some naval connections. In some of the most pretentious dialog ever committed to video we got, "Do you know why a boat floats and a rock sinks?" At the end of the episode, Galadriel jumps off a ship in the middle of the ocean. At that point, everyone is hoping she will drown but you know that in Episode 2 a boat is going to pick her up because that is what normally happens when someone jumps off a ship in the middle of the ocean. About 25 people go overboard on cruise ships each year and a passing boat always picks them up.
D) I stick to the WWII documentaries on Amazon Prime.
Memo to Jeff Bezos: When you spend a billion dollars on a TV show, invest a few dollars on some writers instead of hiring two guys who have no writing credits whatsoever.
