According to Hobbs in Aircraft Carrier Victorious, original builders’ plans & Watton AotS Victorious these are safety nets, allowing deck personnel to get off the flight deck quickly below the deck level. RN carriers did not have the continuous galleries as in the USN.

I would like to enquire the name of a distinctive feature exclusively found in British WWII carriers, which is like a basket handging near the edge of the flight deck. If you have the Flyhawk Illustrious deluxe kit, the feature under enquiry are parts 1 to 14 of the Fret A PE. Thank you.
