With SSN-AUKUS Australia is openly sending a signal to China that it takes its expansion seriously and it will not allow it to dic Previous Message
I'm so glad I'm not an Australian taxpayer with this totally unnecessary waste of their money.
It's interesting that the Americans wouldn't allow the UK to sell Canada Trafalgar class SSN back in the late 80s/early 90s because they 'didn't want the technology to be transferred'. Ironically, Canada substantially helped the US develop its nuclear tech. Now with anti-China paranoia being drummed up (politicians always need an enemy to keep the herds from looking too closely at what they're doing) the Aussies are finding open arms at the idea that they should spend a terrifying amount of money on SSN they really don't need.
Meanwhile, China has declared itself a 'near-Arctic nation and is building SSN, SSBN and Ice Breakers like they're going out of style and Canada has no way to defend its longest border. (Not that it's present government cares)

When Australia decided to get nuclear subs, why didn't they redo the contract and buy the French one?
