United States Naval Aircraft since 1911 has Seven pages on Coloring and 14 on markings. The copywrite is 1968. the authors are Gordon Swanborough and Peter M. Bowers.

Dana gave a seminar on this subject at an IPMS Nats a few years back (in Phoenix?). Presented all this plus more (how about the checkerboard pattern on cruiser turrets). I asked if there was a book/monograph in the works, but expenses at the time precluded it.
