Some of you missed my point. George Washington did not try to break up the union. He fought to form it yet he was a southerner and a slave owner. Abraham Lincoln, on the other hand, fought to preserve the union but he was unsure of having former slaves as citizens. Key west was in a southern state, but we can exchange that for New Orleans. The point is while the Civil War was not a good time for America and it is a total shame the states fought themselves over an issue such as slavery. (Yes slavery is immoral )There are plenty of other ships in the fleet that have names that are associated with the confederacy. My point is, we cannot change history because of those who think we should. These names are still part of the United States today I do not believe they so much honor the confederacy but deeds that were performed by brave and scared people.
