I was writting about ship names used today by the German navy. The Lütjens class was built more than 50 years ago, they are out of service for 20 years or more.
When German navy was re-funded in the 1950s, there were many ships named after persons, e.g. the frigates Scharnhorst, Graf Spee, Hipper, Scheer, Gneisenau, Raule, Brommy... But these very different times regarding the views on German history (with a lot of "former" Nazis still in leading positions of the German state).
